Few possible head and neck pain causes

While most of you like to consider head and neck pains as something that is regular, which comes and goes, have you ever given thought that if head and neck pain causes are interrelated? It is unlikely that something as trivial as a headache should be the reason behind such extensive thoughts, yet experts say that having a full-fledged knowledge of the causes of different ailments in your body would help you in the long run.

If the pains are interrelated, then they are called cervicogenic headaches, which are often misdiagnosed as a cluster of headaches (head pains originating in the head). This happens because of the muscles of the cervical spine that are attached to the head, which allow the pain in the neck to result in a pain in the back of the head.

What are the possible head and neck pain causes?
The roots of the upper three cervical spinal nerves share a pain nucleus, which carries pain signals to the brain, with the trigeminal nerve. This nerve is responsible for carrying the face messages to the brain. Due to the shared nerve tracts, the brain understands that the pain in the neck is felt at the back of the head.

Other reasons:
Muscle strains
Muscle strains generated from any quick and awkward body movement for which your body muscles were not prepared for. Whiplash from a sports injury or an automobile accident are the common causes of muscle strains.

Arthritis
The breakdown of spinal structures could also be a prevalent cause of neck pains. Osteophytes or bone spurs (bony projections) could compress nerves and soft tissues causing a radiating pain, which could sometimes be felt in the neck area.

Cancer
Another fatal head and pain cause is the growth of a tumor that maintains a persistent pain in the neck and in the back of the head.

Stiff neck and headaches
While most stiff necks and headaches are a result of extra workload, migraines, too much noise, or irregular sleep cycle, others do not. The regular ones tend to go away within a week, and their return depends on how the person is taking care of the ailments. However, persistent and unnatural pains must be brought to immediate medical attention, as there are several fatal head and neck pain causes to back up the condition.
